Tutor instructions for group poster project

Read through the “Group Poster Project instructions for students” in your tutorial as an OHT so that they (and you) know what is going on. Also include a copy of each of the forms and the assessment criteria.

In your first tutorial class, start organising the students into groups of 3 to 4 for the group poster project.

You only have 2 weeks to get the groups organised!!!

Type up a list of the groups from your class and send the lecturer a copy.  The lecturer will have to coordinate with you to group any late enrolments or other special cases.

You will only allow 10 mins at the end of your tutorial class to discuss the group poster project.  Your tutorial must remain focussed on the tutorial problem sheets.

Remind students that posters are displayed outside the tutorial rooms so that students have an idea of what to do.

Students must download their own forms and all of their submissions must be TYPED.

You will have to mark:

  1. Progression sheet a pass/fail, worth 1%
  2. Poster presentations a pass/fail, and mark who has attended, worth 3%
  3. Peer assessment sheet a pass/fail, cut the form and hand back each part, worth 2%
  4. Ensure that the Questionnaire has been completed a pass/fail, worth 1%
  5. Individual summary, worth 3%.

Students must complete each item.

The final grade and your comments on the individual summary for each student is summarised in the “Tutor marking scheme” – you can obtain copies of this form from the lecturer or project supertutor.  It is important for you to give feedback on the individual summary, so please fill in some comments.  Also see the note below on accessing the ‘originality report’ in “Turnitin”.

Read through “Instructions for Tutors on how to run the tutorial with the student poster presentations”.

You have tow weeks to complete the marking for all parts of the project after the final due date.

No resubmissions will be permitted so be sure that your students understand the instructions, in particular for the individual summary.  The summaries should be concise, 200-300 words to complete the requirements set out in the project description.

Complete the tutor Questionnaire.

Encourage the students to continue working in their groups during the tutorial classes once the project is complete!

Accessing the “originality report” from ‘turnitin’:

If you look under Turnitin assignments under groups in the control panel of blackboard, you will get a list of all the students’ submissions for the individual summary.  Click on “report” and check that there is no RED component >10%.  If there is, the report is a fail.  If you get a report that has a Yellow or Orange grade for the “overall similarity”, check how much has been copied.  Students should demonstrate that the work is their own.  If you have any doubts about an originality report, consult with the lecturer.
